Premium Bonsai Soil - Deciduous & Broadleaf Blend

The Foundation for Vibrant Autumn Colour and Fine Ramification

Success with deciduous bonsai starts in the root zone.  Our Premium Deciduous Blend is specifically formulated to provide the higher moisture retention required by broadleaf species while maintaining the open structure necessary for vigorous health.  By balancing premium Japanese clays with volcanic aggregates, this mix ensures your trees stay hydrated during the peak of summer while encouraging the fine, fibrous root growth that leads to delicate branch ramification.

Key Ingredients:

  • Double-Sifted Akadama:  The primary component for deciduous trees.  Akadama holds moisture in its core while allowing the exterior to dry, creating a perfect water-to-air ratio for Maples and Elms.
  • Hyuga Pumice:  A lightweight, porous volcanic stone that ensures the mix never compacts, providing permanent "breathing room" for the roots.
  • New Zealand Pine Bark Fines:  Adds essential organic matter and slight acidity.  It acts as a moisture buffer, preventing the soil from drying out too quickly in indoor or high-heat environments.
  • Black Lava Rock:  Provides the necessary grit and "tooth" for roots to grow against, which triggers the root splitting required for fine canopy development.
  • Zeolite:  A high-CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) mineral that prevents nutrient leaching.  It captures your liquid fertilizers and feeds them to the tree on demand.
  • pH:  6.4

The Bonsai Botanicals Difference

Our Professional Deciduous Blend is hand-mixed and sifted to remove the dust that clogs drainage.  Because this mix contains a higher percentage of Akadama, it provides the subtle cooling effect that delicate species like Japanese Maples need during heatwaves.  The Pine Bark further assists by maintaining a stable micro-climate within the pot.
