Nobuichi Bonsai Jin Pliers 180mm Made in Japan
Nobuichi Bonsai Jin Pliers 180mm
High Carbon Steel - Made in Japan
Crafted in Japan and endorsed by world-renowned Shohin master Nobuichi Urushibata, the Nobuichi 180mm Jin Pliers are an essential addition to any serious bonsai tool roll. Featuring precision-machined, cross-hatched jaws and high-carbon tool steel construction, these pliers provide the exceptional biting power required to peel bark, strip wood fibers along natural grain lines, and create realistic, weathered jin (deadwood branches) and shari (trunk scars).
At 180mm (~7.1 inches) in length, this is the most versatile and popular size for bonsai pliers. It delivers the perfect balance of hand-held maneuverability and increased leverage—making it ideal for fine deadwood detail work as well as bending, cinching, and removing heavy-gauge copper and aluminum wire.
How to Use for Deadwood Creation
-
Crush: Clamp down on the target branch or stub near the desired break point to loosen the wood layers.
-
Peel: Firmly grip the end of the wood fibers with the pliers' tip and pull downwards along the length of the branch following the grain.
-
Shape: Repeat the peeling process until you achieve a tapered, weathered jin profile.
Care & Maintenance
-
Clean off wood resin, sap, and metal dust after each use.
-
Apply a thin layer of camellia oil or rust-inhibiting tool spray to keep high-carbon steel protected against oxidation.
-
Periodically place a drop of oil into the central pivot joint to maintain fluid operation.
